We place great emphasis on a positive client experience, rooted in professionalism, transparency, and attentive communication. Our final product always aims to surpass expectations and is clearly communicated for streamlined construction.

Based in the rugged yet refined mountain town of Canmore, AB., we execute projects locally in the Bow Valley, in Calgary and area, throughout Western Canada & the USA.

Aleks Zablotni-Schantz, BGS, DID

Aleks Zablotni-Schantz, founder and principal of Compass Design Co. Inc., is a Canadian-based designer creating functionally tailored and critically selective residential and commercial environments, each of which are thoughtfully attuned to the unique needs of today’s discerning clients.

With deep roots and a home base in the iconic Canadian Rocky Mountains, Aleks’s design ethos melds distinctively clean lines with rich organic, tactile & visual layers to create one-of-a-kind yet timeless spaces that are mindful of their surroundings, are environmentally sensitive, and most of all serve as a visual expression of the Client (or Brand) spirit.

With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Aleks has built an extensive body of work across a broad geographic spectrum—including Residential projects (Spec, Custom New-Build, Renovations, Luxury, Cabins & Vacation Homes) in Whistler BC, Santa Barbara & Montecito (California), Toronto, Las Vegas, throughout Alberta, interior British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

Our Philosophy

“Would you rather have a compass or a map?

The answer is, it depends.

If you’re working with territory that is changing, if it’s possible that unexpected things will come along, then you want a compass.

Because a compass is resilient. A compass doesn’t care if a road is closed—actually or metaphorically—because the compass will always point you to where you want to go.

On the other hand, a map can show you the territory.

And if you’re confident that the territory hadn’t changed very much since when the map was written, then a map will help you a great deal.

But in the long run, please give me a compass.
